Hilton Curio Collection La Jolla Ca
Hotel Review of Hilton Curio Collection La Jolla California
I recently spent a few days visiting the Hilton Curio Collection in La Jolla California. There were several really great features about the Hilton Curio Collection La Jolla and then several misses. Located just down from UCSD the Curio Collection Hotel is a great spot for location and ease of walking to shops, restaurants, ice cream and the beach. Driving south for less than a mile you come to the La Jolla Cove where the waves are beautiful and majestic hitting the rocks and shoreline. This is a great spot for sunset watching, pictures and enjoying an evening picnic. There is just something about this spot that the sunset reflects off the water in such a beautiful memorable experience. There are several outdoor eating areas along this section of La Jolla we chose a great little Mexican Food place, I’d recommend the Nachos and Fajitas.
Lobby/Check-In Very nice entrance and botique hotel feel with the most amazing scent as you come in! The hotel front desk is little to be desired compared to the rest of the room and the open office with all the junky paperwork is not very appealing to look at. The front desk manager was really nice but most of the other front desk people didn’t impress. Request were forgotten or never happened or just dismissed. It was really annoying that they didn’t mention that we had a 30/day credit for our room until after it was too late to use it and they didn’t offer to correct that. Overall not super impressed so far.
Rooms: One of the major reasons I booked this hotel was that from the pictures it looks like the ocean was pretty close from the balcony view. It also looked like the the balcony was bigger but come to find out its pretty narrow, fits 2 seats and a small table. The rooms are nice but again not very wide and the noise from the other adjacent rooms was pretty loud. The doors to the room slammed so hard each time we left or entered and general noise was just really hard to relax or sleep. Beds and covers were okay but not fantastic for the price you pay. Lastly booking on the 10th floor gives you amazing views of La Jolla and the ocean beyond but buyer beware you are literally startled in the morning with the moving of club chairs above, scraping the floor as they are re-positioning them. This happens at closing of the bar and opening. I vote floor 9! It was annoying to hear so much noice at 7am of workers outside doing maintenance on the hotel.
Pool area: was nice and the pool was very heated but still not popular in March. Towels are provided and nice chairs and couches. The pool itself is about the size of a backyard swimming pool. Off-season was still occurring so the outdoor space wasn’t completely operating to normal standards, but had a fun club motif with lots of seating and lounge chairs, fireplace and bar area. I’m sure the summer months at the pool and bar are happening but it was pretty sleepy in March.
Dining: The 11th floor held the rooftop dining with a view. One problem it was so hot from the sun and for some reason they didn’t have any of the sliders open. I bet it’s super amazing when/if they open the sliders on a nice summer night. Pizza was great!
Great things: Location, Views, smelled nice coming in and decor was great, cute bikes out front and beautiful front grounds, walkable to great eating and the beach, close to UCSD.
Not so Great things; So Noisy!!, Parking $39/night seems ridiculous especially for the rate of room and being off season, price overall was high for what you get, pictures are better online than what is happening in person.
Would I stay there again?? Hmmm.. I’d have to get a good rate, pick the 9th floor and bring my own comfortable bedding and earplugs, but maybe because I want to see what it feels like in the summer.
